Unemployment, marginalization, ethnic discrimination, terrorism, tribalism, poor governance, poverty and corruption are all acknowledged issues that encompass insecurity.
Children and youth grow up in that insecurity, and there is a great need to acknowledge their experiences, available choices and reality. Because without that acknowledgement and understanding it will not be possible to adequately address their situation and provide a way out from the harshness and violence that often ensue.
Being surrounded by harshness and violent behavior and competition for resources also many times give rise to insecure feelings and confusion. These emotions can be very challenging to handle and understand, and are also many times dismissed and not acknowledged. To ensure the rights of children and youth and give them an appropriate avenue for expression are crucial priorities. This means that children and youth need to be heard, which all relate to how a society views and treats its children and youth.
